Remembering Darryl Ross

Remembering Darryl RossWe remember Darryl helping at many of our garage sale events. He and the rest of the crew would spend days bringing boxes of assorted objects and furniture into our museum event room. This happened twice a year with his wife, Carol, who was one of the organizers of our Summer and Christmas garage sales. After bringing the many containers and furniture into the event room, these helpers had to rebox the items, and bring them back into the shed after the sales were over.

We have also learned some interesting facts about Darryl, including how athletic he was. The kind of dedication it takes to be a good athlete was evident in his work.

As we read in his obituary, “Darryl graduated from the University of Laverne with his teaching credential. He taught in Azusa, then Sacramento, for seven years. In 1965, he moved to Mt. Shasta, a change that was inspired by working summers as a seasonal park ranger at Castle Crags State Park.

“He was a long-time teacher at Sisson School in Mt. Shasta where he taught middle school for 27 years and truly loved teaching kids. When he wasn’t at school, Darryl enjoyed trips to the Oregon Coast in the RV, fishing, gardening, sports on TV, reading historical books, watering down the runners each Fourth of July, volunteering at the Sisson Museum yard sales, and spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors.”

We have received many donations to our museum in honor of Darryl. We are grateful for these donations and for being fortunate to have had Darryl in our museum family.
